Глубинная ностальгия по архаическим культурам является лейтмотивом большинства произведений ставропольского живописца Сергея Паршина, чьё творчество, благодаря позитивной простоте, оказалось востребованным на фоне лабиринтной культуры XX века. Сергей сохранил в себе это, идущее из детства психоэстетическое ощущение родственности органического и неорганического мира. Художника одновременно интересует символическая система европейских живописцев рубежа XIX-XX веков и русское искусство эпохи модерна, языческая культура древних кочевников и магический мир библейских образов. Но во всей этой эклектичности есть смысловой и эмоциональный центр. Оставаясь в рамках традиционных жанров, художник сосредотачивается на вариативном подходе к сквозным, смыслообразующим пластическим идеям.
С 1982 г. участие в городских, краевых, групповых выставках в городе Ставрополе. С 1990 г. участие в зональных, республиканских, всесоюзных, международных, зарубежных выставках. Более 30 персональных выставок в России, Франции, ЮАР, Люксембурге, Вьетнаме, Аргентине, Германии, Испании.
